Poulan Pro PP4218AV
Best value and easy to use
I've had my Poulan Pro chainsaw for two years and I love it. It is easy to use and its by far the best value out there. I own 10 acres of land covered with dense hard wood trees. I have cleared over half of the trees and my Poulan Pro has not given me any problems.

I bought a Poulan Pro 4218 and it didn't last 1 tank of gas before it started to die every time I let off the trigger. It also started to bog down like the blade brake was coming on. Poulan directed me to a service center and they made some adjustments. I tried to use it again today and it again failed after less than a tank of fuel. This time it died and when I tried to start it the pull cord would only come out about 8". I called Poulan again and they are refusing to authorize a refund at the store I bought it from. I was only cutting 6" and smaller trees that were already down. Junk saw and Poulan won't acknowledge a lemon. I will NEVER go with Poulan again. My previous Poulan saw lasted over 14 years. Now it looks like they build junk.

I do free fire wood for local neighbors. I have had my Poulan Pro PP4218 for over a year. I am running an Oregon double Guard Pro 91 18" bar, and a 91VXL062G Chain. This saw is an animal. For the power to weight ratio it will cut some big wood. I have taken down an Elm that was 52" at the base. Had to cut it out in 9 blocks due to bar length. I have cut about 40 cords of wood with it, and it starts every time, hot or cold. Very dependable.
If you follow the factory starting instructions, and use the right fuel/oil mix, and a sharp chain, it will last. The more you run it the better it runs. Great saw for the price.

Pro it is not
I have been through 3 of this model in 6 years. The first one bought through fingerhut and it lost compression and would not start after only 2 days use. Called Poulan as fingerhut told me to do and went through a lot of hassle to get the warranty honored. Told me that I scored the cylinder walls by improper fuel mixing. I Think Not! I have run chainsaws for 30 years and have a Mac eager beaver 2014 which has run good for over 20 years. I mix my fuel in a jug putting some gas in first, then the oil, and top it off and then I pour it in my fuel can. Can't get better mixed than that. Now when I finally got the second saw from Poulan it ran for about 6 months and same thing. Lost compression and would not start. Cylinder walls scored again. Ok give one more chance. Went To Wal-Mart and bought a new one and confirmed it was not a reconditioned one. This one I have run for over 2 years but this year had a lot of firewood to cut and guess what. On 10/18/2013 this one did the same thing. Done with Poulan. I went and bought a Husky. I know the manual on the Poulan says occasional use but come on. Only 5 cords of wood and it's done? When I see the word Pro on a product I expect it to be quality and last. This machine can not stand up to cutting a lot of firewood and occasional use should be stamped on the machine itself and Pro taken off of it. This machine has soured me from ever buying a Poulan produce again. Just in case Poulan wants to say it is my fault I will add this. I know how to mix fuel, I keep the air filter clean, I check and clean the spark plugs, I never let the oiler run out, I grease the sprocket on the end of the bar, and I clean the rail of the bar and the entire saw when I am done and put it away. My knowledge of operation and care of the saw is not the issue here. Bottom line this saw is NOT Pro.

This is my replacement saw, as the first one scored a piston. I really like the saw, except this one as with the last one, has idling issues. Doesn't always want to idle. Grayling Power equipment in Grayling, Michigan should be taken off your list of repair places. The men were rude, took their time (6 weeks) and many phone calls to get to the source of the problem with my last Poulan Pro. I will never take anything back there. Extremely mean people.

North Idaho camping saw
I bought this saw a few years ago and we use it to cut wood when camping in the north idaho forest. It takes down trees and stands up to prolonged use while we are gathering wood for the duration of the trip. It was stolen out of my garage and I decided to buy another just like it.

good saw but has its problems
first off i bought the saw factory refurbished from Ebay. i got it and it looked brand new. The saw was great and just works good for the occasional cut. i use the saw to build MTB trails. Ive gotten some good use out of it. lets talk about the bad though
first the chain is no good from factory so soon you will have to buy another one
second it is very under powered.it bogs out on bigger cuts
third the saw is heavy!!
finally out of the box i had to make some adjustments with the idle and high and low speed.
its a good saw dont get me wrong but i will be going with a stihl or husquvarna next!
ps i got it for 94$
